An economic calendar is an important part of fundamental analysis. An economic calendar displays important news events and economic data reports that are going to be released each trading day for different countries. Economic calendar releases may have an affect on the currency of the reporting country, different stocks and indices or the financial market as a whole.
An economic calendar displays:
- The time of the release (make sure to check the chosen time zone)
- The currency / country that pertains to the release
- The event
- The previous, forecast and actual data of the release
Take note: In most cases if the data of the actual release is better than the forecast you can expect that the price of the national currency will rise. If the actual release is worse than the forecast, expect that the price of the national currency will fall.
An economic calendar usually displays national holidays when the financial market(s) are closed.
